About

The 100 Cycle Challenge is a new annual road race on the cycling calendar that takes place on the first Sunday of May in the City of Ekurhuleni, Gauteng. It is open to both professional and amateur cyclists – anyone over the age of 15 who loves cycling can enter! The 100 Cycle Challenge is the only road race in South Africa exclusively dedicated to cycling development. We have partnered with Cycling South Africa in their capacity as technical specialists; together we aim to drive transformation and development of the sport at grassroots level. R50.00 from each entry will go towards Race The Future, a Cycling South Africa initiative aimed at getting young kids and teenagers active, engaged, enthused, off the street and onto bicycle seats. The 100 is also an official points scoring event in the 2018 Road Cycling Series.

Race

The month of May offers lower daytime temperatures in Gauteng, meaning less heat and exhaustion for cyclists.

May also fills the gap in the annual road cycling calendar and answers the demand for a UCI-accredited event in late autumn.

The early 07:00 start will make the event a comfortable, enjoyable and unforgettable experience for everyone taking part.

Official date

Sunday, 6 May 2018

Official start

07h00

Official end

15h30

All cyclists on the route, who have not reached water point 5 by 15h30, will be picked up by the sweep vehicles.

The race will be timed by RaceTec; no chip, no time. If you do not own a timing chip and would like your race timed, RaceTec chips will be on sale at race pack collection. If you already own one, please make sure that you are in possession of the timing chip on race day.

Prize giving will take place at the Hospitality Village within half an hour of the winners crossing the finish line.

The 100 Cycle Challenge has been conceptualised and developed by Zen|One in conjunction with Cycling South Africa. It serves to bolster South Africa’s cycling calendar with an annual 100 kilometre road race that takes place on the first Sunday of May in the City of Ekurhuleni, Gauteng. Furthermore, the race supports the development of the sport in South Africa – R50 from each entry into the 100 Cycle Challenge goes toward funding cycling academies nationwide, under the umbrella of Race The Future, Cycling South Africa’s national development plan. The developmental focus will be on the City of Ekurhuleni during year one of the cycle race.
